CBSE grade cards from the CCE years show a CGPA, not marks. CBSE’s own circular gives the conversion: multiply by 9.5 for an indicative percentage. The same 9.5 factor works per subject (grade point × 9.5).

How to use

  1. Enter your CBSE CGPA (out of 10).
  2. The calculator applies Percentage = CGPA × 9.5.
  3. Use the reverse box to find the CGPA needed for a cut-off percentage.

CBSE formula and source

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Applies to: Class X CGPA under the CCE grading scheme (2010–2017 results).

Worked example: 8.6 CGPA → 8.6 × 9.5 = 81.7%.

CBSE calls this an indicative percentage. CBSE does not award an overall percentage, division or aggregate.

  • CGPA is the average of grade points of the five main subjects; the additional sixth subject is excluded.
  • The result is "indicative". If an admission form asks for exact marks, use the subject grade points × 9.5.
  • From 2018 onwards, CBSE Class X results show marks, so no conversion is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why does CBSE use 9.5?

CBSE derived 9.5 as the average percentage of marks of candidates scoring between 90 and 100 (grade A1) across years, so A1’s grade point 10 maps to about 95.

Is the CBSE converted percentage official?

CBSE describes it as an indicative equivalence. It does not issue an overall percentage. Institutions may apply their own rules.
