Frequently asked questions
Has the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor been announced?
No. As of the last check (2026-11-05), the Cabinet has approved the Terms of Reference and the Commission is due to report within 18 months of its constitution. No fitment factor has been officially notified. Figures such as 1.92, 2.15 or 2.86 are speculation.
What is a fitment factor?
It is the multiplier applied to your current basic pay to fix the new basic pay. The 7th CPC used 2.57, which took the minimum basic pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.
Why does DA become 0%?
When a new pay commission is implemented, the accumulated DA (currently 63%) is merged into the new basic pay through the fitment factor, and DA restarts from zero.
Will HRA change?
Under the 7th CPC, HRA started at 24/16/8% for X/Y/Z cities and rose to 30/20/10% once DA crossed 50%. The calculator lets you test both patterns.
