Frequently asked questions

What does “age as on 1 August” mean?

Your age is counted on that fixed date, not on the day you apply or the exam date. Notices usually also print the eligible birth-date window, such as “born not earlier than 2 August 1994 and not later than 1 August 2005”. This calculator reproduces that window.

How are relaxations combined?

Category relaxation (OBC 3 years, SC/ST 5 years) is added to PwBD or ex-serviceman relaxation. For example, a PwBD candidate from SC/ST gets 15 years in UPSC and SSC. IBPS allows the category relaxation plus only one of PwBD or ex-serviceman.

How is a 29 February birthday handled?

In common years, a person born on 29 February completes another year of age on 1 March. The eligibility check itself uses the birth-date window printed in the notice.

Does this check the number of attempts?

No. Attempt limits, educational qualifications and other conditions are not checked. Read the full notification.
